and critical acclaim throughout Europe and the U.S. His compositions range from large scale orchestra and chorus works to short duos and trios for winds and strings. There is an abundance of keyboard music: solo and four hand, sonatas, suites and concertos, as well as music suitable for teaching.
Introducing:
Although much of Van Slyck's music was published by E. C. Schirmer, Willis, Southern, and General Music Publishing companies during his lifetime, when he passed away in 1983, he left behind many works that were never published. Now using Sibelius©, the same software used by the world’s largest sheet music publishers, these works are being published by Van Slyck 20th Century Music, and are available for purchase on this website in the form of printed sheet music or as PDF files.
In addition to these newly published works, original LP's featuring Van Slyck's performances and compositions are also available on this site. (See LP's and CDs for sale.)
It is one of the goals of this website to serve as a resource for researchers of music of the 20th century in general, or Nicholas Van Slyck in particular. All of his published music is listed here, as well as a full biography, and links to related websites. In the spirit of keeping great music alive, welcome to the site.

June 23, 2010, Cambridge, MA - Van Slyck 20th Century Music has released the new CD "Forest Music" featuring the compositions of Nicholas Van Slyck. The CD includes compositions for French Horn, Bassoon, Harpsichord, and Solo Piano. Full of remarkable, historic, live performances from around New England, this CD captures a vital music scene that Van Slyck helped to create. Outstanding among these performances is "Twelve Cadenzas for Piano" performed with passion and total commitment by Trudi Van Slyck. Add to that the compelling harpsichord playing of Irma Rogell, the last student of Wanda Landowska. The title piece is played by William Purvis, Professor at Julliard and the Yale School of Music. The clever "Fantasia Numerica", composed for performer Thomas Elliott, rounds out the collection, for a fascinating listening experience.
The CD and the sheet music for pieces featured on "Forest Music" can now be ordered from Van Slyck 20th Century Music. Please see: "How to Order". Or purchase through CD Baby.
